GRID STRUCTURES

The base of the system is the square and its division by oblique and right angle lines.

The structures in question are rectilinear and based on configurations inside the square and which form a raster. The number of elements of this raster and their specific place inside the square are defined by computer generated random numbers which are coupled to the structural elements .

This type of structure has been described in the periodic Leonardo which can be accessed on the web under:

More or less dense grids are represented as computer printout drawings or photographically transposed in white on black.

Grids can be programmed in random configurations or charged with specific symbolic significance.

In opposition to the legendary speed of the computer to generate numerous significant examples of pseudo-random compositions, the manual transposition on varied support by classical painting techniques offers a wellcome distanciation in opposition to the machine.
